Lets get started with materials:

Materials:

1. Polymer clay
2. Blade
3. Hole poking tool (I don't know what the fancy name for that is!)
4. Natural twine
5. Glass
6. Card
7. Baking tray
8. Jewellery findings
9. Gold leaf (I found mine at the hardware store)

The steps are super easy:

Step 1: Condition your clay by rolling it in the palm of your hand for a couple of minutes until it is soft and pliable.

The great thing about polymer is you can mix colours. I made this pretty apricot colour with a bright orange and some white. Luckily the other pastel colours were in stock at the shop.

Step 2: Use the glass to roll out the clay, making sure it is even. If you don't use an even sided glass you won't be able to get the clay an even thickness.

If you have an acrylic rolling pin that will be even easier to use!

Step 3: Use your blade to cut a triangle shape. You could get fancy and do a hexagon but I was a bit too mathematically challenged for that on a Friday afternoon!

Step 4: Use something to poke a hole in the top for your cord. I actually have a special polymer hole puncher, but you could use a knitting needle or something similiar.

Step 5: Place you triangle face down on a piece of gold leaf, making sure it has a straight edge at the top.

Step 6: Turn it over and use the gold leaf backing to rub the leaf on to the polymer. Rub it pretty hard to get it nice and smooth.

You can then tear away the excess gold leaf to leave a lovely triangle of gold like below.

Step 7: After you have finished making all of your pieces if you are making more than one necklace, put all of the pieces onto a card and place on a baking tray reading for baking.

Follow your clay's instructions to bake. I had to bake mine at 130 deg Celsius for 15 minutes. It is a good idea to cover the tray in aluminum foil to ensure no fumes escape into the stove. The clay packet says it is fine for a domestic oven, but I like to be safe.

Step 8: Once your pieces are cooked and cooled, thread the cord through, tie a knot and then attach your findings to the top, making sure you have the desired length.

What you will need:
a pair of sneakers - we each found what we loved!
fabric glue - tacky glue seemed to work the best
glitter - duh!
painters tape
paper plates
a shoe box
craft sticks or toothpicks
other metallic embellishments

First up, gather your shoes and supplies:

Take out your shoe laces. Pull out the tongue, don't stick it out....pull it out silly! And tape down the rest of the shoe with painters tape.

Apply your tacky glue with a craft sponge...or your finger. I'm a "get messy kinda girl" so I prefer the finger method myself! Liberally shake glitter onto the glued area...OVER A SHOE BOX!

Shake off excess glitter into your box, then pour it onto a paper plate to re-use for the next "gluing". (see we are even recycling when we glitter!) Switch shoes in order to allow the section you just worked on to dry for a few minutes.

Now start in on another section...using either a toothpick or craft stick to get around tough areas. You will be able to easily scrape the dried glitter off the grommets later, so don't worry too much! (see our lovely examples of the "glue experience"). Then repeat the glittery steps.

**Note** I chose silver and black glitter over grey shoes = easy. Tahlia chose pink glitter over pink shoes = SUPER easy. Anneke chose black glitter over white shoes = much more labor intensive, but oh-so-cool!

 

 

We did allow them dry for an entire day before we attempted to lace them up and wear them out! Last step I sprayed them with an art fixative "just in case".

訂造窗簾

搬左新屋,都想自己車窗簾

但未整過,吾知點入手

所以就四出去報價

係香港問左訂3幅要1700-2200,

身邊個個朋友都講太貴了

有同事介紹係taopo買,但摸吾到布質....

上網搵資料之後就決定上去東門睇下

成日聽人講去東門訂造窗簾!

今日自己上去搵左

原來....訂造窗簾吾係街店

係一座商場 @@

個商場分好幾層...每層都有好多間細鋪

各式各樣的布都有,

好多布都係 十至幾百不等

而我搵到我原本係香港睇中一模一樣的布,

用800rmb就訂造了8幅!

3小時可拎貨

當日去整,亦都遇到好多香港買家

另掛鉤8毫一個

用係窗簾段面 最頂的掛鉤位的白布

亦買左d要用來自己車時窗簾時用一米3rmb


亦都可以只係買布

Supplies:

About 2 yards of fabric – measure the length of your ironing board and add 9 inches
2 yards of 3/8″ elastic

Sewing Supplies

First things first! If you want to be able to wash your cover in the future, you need to pre-shrink your fabric! Throw it in the wash and dry it according to the instructions on the bolt at the fabric store. Usually you wash cold and dry at med heat. After it’s dry iron out all the wrinkles. Then you’re ready to start!

Turn your not so gorgeous ironing board upside down on top of your fabric. Line one edge about 3 1/2 inches away from the edge of the fabric, this way you have a good size piece of scrap fabric left on the other side!

Using a ruler or measuring tape cut the fabric 3 1/8″ away from the board edge. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Flip your ironing board back on it’s legs. Now you’re going to press under 1/8″ along the edges of the piece you just cut. You will sew this under for a nice clean finish.

Stitch right on top of the newly pressed seam, it really doesn’t have to be perfect, just make sure the stitching goes through both layers.

Next take the fabric back over to the ironing board. Using a ruler or measuring tape press under 5/8″ along all the edges. Here’s the problem you’re going to run into. On the rounded edges (the two bottom corners and top rounded edge) the fabric is going to be hard to press evenly. Just do the best you can and you should end up with some creases like this picture below. We’ll fix that next.

Along the three rounded edges we are going to add a single row of gathering stitches. Here’s how. Sit down at your sewing machine, find the stitch length control. Change the stitch length to 4. Then just along the rounded edges stitch right on top of the other row of stitching you already have. Leave the thread tails long so you can easily gather them.

You already have the 5/8″ seam pressed down, so take a few pins {yuck, pins.. they are necessary for this} and pin the pressed edge down. It should pucker and NOT lay smoothly.

Next find the top thread of the gathering stitch you just added. Pull the long thread and bunch/gather the fabric to the middle of the curved edge. Like this:

Then smooth out the gathers until the fabric no longer puckers and lays smoothly against the top piece of fabric! Doesn’t that look so much better! Leave the pins in for the next step.

Sew on top of the clean finish seam you already have to create a casing for the elastic. Make sure you leave an opening to thread the elastic through. An inch should be plenty!

Hook a big safety pin onto the end of your elastic and start scrunching and pulling it through the casing. When you get back to where you started, hook the bobby pin onto the other end of the elastic. I ended up using exactly 2 yards for my ironing board. Slip your cover over your ironing board and cinch the elastic until the cover fits snugly. You may not need to cut anything off, but just make sure it fits right. When you have marked your elastic where it needs to be sew the two pieces of elastic together with a few rows of stitching. Then stitch the casing closed where you left the opening. OR if you are feeling lazy.. you can leave it open.

AND… You’re done! Slip your new cover on right over your old one. This will add extra padding and unless your fabric is sheer you shouldn’t be able to see your old ugly cover through it. This cover is washable! If you ever have the need, throw it in the wash and it will look like new! Now admire your beautiful new ironing board! Here’s a shot from underneath.

Whew, that looks so much better! I no longer have to be ashamed of leaving my ironing board sitting out for days. Trust me, it happens. Now all your friends and neighbors will be asking where you got that cute cover!

I get excited every time I pull it out! Off to the laundry room to start ironing in style!
